Malaysia earmarks nearly RM69 billion for school upgrades and teacher support in 2027 budget
The 2027 Budget gives the Education Ministry almost RM69 billion to improve school facilities and expand teacher-assistant programmes, targeting especially rural schools.
Malaysia's 2027 Budget allocates nearly RM69 billion to the Education Ministry for a range of infrastructure and welfare initiatives. The package includes RM2 billion for general school repair and maintenance, and roughly RM1.3 billion to upgrade 682 schools that are in poor condition, with a focus on remote and rural areas. A senior lecturer from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia highlighted that better facilities will help close the education gap beyond academic outcomes.
The budget also funds the deployment of teacher assistants to 200 high-density primary schools, allowing teachers to concentrate on instruction and assessment. University officials stressed that the increased spending must translate into tangible improvements in school conditions, student wellbeing, and digital learning skills. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the doubled repair allocation during the budget presentation.
