Malaysia earmarks RM935 million to boost tourism and extend Visit Malaysia Year

The 2027 budget allocates RM935 million to the tourism sector, extending the Visit Malaysia Year campaign and funding promotional and infrastructure initiatives.

In the 2027 budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set aside RM935 million for tourism and culture, extending the Visit Malaysia Year campaign through 2027. The allocation aims to fund grants, promotional incentives and infrastructure upgrades, including expanded QR-code payment facilities at key tourist sites. MATTA president Nigel Wong emphasized the need for the resources to reach all segments of the industry, from travel agencies to small and medium-sized enterprises, ensuring visitor spending supports local businesses.

He also highlighted plans to create packages that combine ecotourism, heritage, cuisine and community experiences. MICA president Datuk Dr Angie Ng noted strong growth in Chinese visitor arrivals and welcomed the funding to further strengthen that market. The combined effort seeks to enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness as a preferred destination for both domestic and international travelers.
