Malaysia finalises new deputy police chief appointment, announcement imminent

During a site visit to development projects in Kulim, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution announced that the appointment of Malaysia’s new deputy inspector-general of police has been finalised and will be revealed shortly. The process complied with the Federal Constitution, incorporating the King’s views and the involvement of the Police Force Commission, which Saifuddin chairs alongside a royal committee. After considering several candidates, a name has been selected; all officers at the police-commissioner rank are eligible, with 25 such officers and three additional special-capacity appointments.

The acting deputy IGP, Special Branch director Ibrahim Darus, who took over after Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay retired, will be succeeded once the official announcement is made. Saifuddin also highlighted a nearby road project that will cut travel time between Serdang, Kedah and Seberang Perai, Penang.
