Malaysia hosts China AI firms for WAIC Connect matchmaking to spur joint projects
A WAIC Connect matchmaking session in Kuala Lumpur gathered Malaysian officials and Chinese artificial-intelligence companies to explore collaborative projects across key sectors.
During WAIC Connect Malaysia, held on September 7-8 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, a dedicated matchmaking session linked Malaysian government and industry stakeholders with Chinese artificial-intelligence companies. Backed by the China Embassy and sponsored by Huawei, the forum allowed Malaysian officials to outline procurement requirements in areas such as public services, healthcare, transportation and SME digitalisation.
Chinese firms including ULearning, AllCam, Digital Hail, Epoint, iFLYTEK and Farben presented relevant solutions. Speakers such as Joes Qiu highlighted Malaysia’s strategic role in expanding China-Southeast Asia AI ties, while Danesh Jothiprahasam reiterated the goal of turning the country into a regional AI hub. The event featured four zones—education, finance, government and open networking—facilitating one-on-one talks among nearly 100 participants to seed projects in smart cities, public safety, talent development and smart healthcare.
