Malaysia moves to sue MyEG and Zetrix over unpaid government revenues

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced civil suits against MyEG Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd for failing to remit RM314 million in government collections.

Anthony Loke, Malaysia's Transport Minister, disclosed that the government is preparing civil lawsuits against MyEG Sdn Bhd and Zetrix AI Bhd for not forwarding RM314 million in collections owed to the Road Transport Department for the period from May 19 to Sept 30. He emphasized that using government revenue as a company's operating cash is unacceptable and that delayed transfers breach contractual obligations. To prevent recurrence, the Transport Ministry and JPJ are evaluating measures such as reducing reliance on third-party agents by expanding JPJ's digital services and introducing a Treasury Minor Receipts Account to channel funds directly into government accounts.

The proposed system would automatically halt transactions if an agent fails to remit revenue within one working day, and collection agents would be required to provide a parent-company bank guarantee. Loke also touched on related initiatives, including dynamic fare pricing for the East Coast Rail Link and a forthcoming national maritime master plan slated for completion in the second quarter of 2027.

Why it matters

Unpaid government collections risk fiscal shortfalls and undermine confidence in public-private partnerships.
