Malaysia rolls out new measures to lure overseas talent back home
Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan announced streamlined programmes, including the Returning Expert Programme and a job portal, to make it easier for Malaysians abroad to return and contribute.
During the Salam Dari Malaysia @ Jakarta event, Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan stressed that Malaysia wants to attract its diaspora without adding bureaucratic hurdles. He introduced revised entry-permit guidelines for the Returning Expert Programme, reducing the expected processing period from roughly six months to four months or less. The programme, overseen by TalentCorp, works alongside the MYFutureJobs portal managed by PERKESO, which lists more than 400,000 job openings.
Ramanan noted that returning decisions involve career prospects, spouses, children’s schooling and other family factors. He also encouraged Malaysians abroad to share expertise and create opportunities for Malaysian firms even before physically returning. Attendees included Chargé d’Affaires Datuk Muzaffar Shah Mustafa, TalentCorp CEO Biruntha Mooruthi and PERKESO CEO Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.
