Malaysia's 4G reaches 99.75% in urban areas as govt targets rural rollout

4G coverage in Malaysia's populated regions hit 99.75% by July 2026, while officials say the focus now shifts to extending service to rural and remote communities under the Jendela plan.

During the launch of the 13th Malaysia Plan public discourse conference, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced that 4G coverage in Malaysia’s populated areas has risen to 99.75% as of July 2026. He warned that such figures mean little if rural and remote populations remain offline, and outlined the expansion of the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) Phase 2 to address the gap, targeting roughly 2,700 underserved locations nationwide.

The minister described the 13th Malaysia Plan as a development agenda that requires shared commitment from government, universities, industry, media and society. He highlighted universities’ role in feeding research and academic perspectives into policy making. The government remains open to constructive criticism to identify implementation gaps and find practical solutions.
