Malaysia's KUSKOP launches program to boost SME exports via global e-commerce
KUSKOP announced new measures to help Malaysian SMEs sell abroad through e-commerce platforms, regulatory aid and promotion.
The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) unveiled a comprehensive support scheme for Malaysian small and medium enterprises aiming to expand into overseas markets. Speaking at the Enterprise 50 Export Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong explained that the initiative will assist firms in using platforms such as Alibaba, navigating foreign regulatory requirements, and gaining promotional exposure to stand out among global competitors.
He highlighted recent talks with Alibaba in China and emphasized that help with permits, licences and free-trade-agreement knowledge will be provided through SME Corp Malaysia, whose CEO Rizal Nainy attended the event. SME exports rose more than 10% last year, representing about 15% of the nation’s total exports. The ministry reaffirmed its ABCD framework—productivity, bureaucracy reduction, capital access, and market reach—and outlined Budget 2027 priorities to secure additional resources and lower operating costs for SMEs. Memoranda of understanding were also signed with Uzbekistan’s Entrepreneurship Development Company, Lazada Malaysia and the Construction Industry Development Board.
