Malaysia's prime minister pledges tighter oversight of public funds and statutory bodies
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government will keep strengthening governance to stop public fund leaks and abuse of power, with a focus on Federal Statutory Bodies.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia will continue to tighten public service governance and integrity to curb leakage of state funds and misuse of authority, especially within Federal Statutory Bodies. Speaking after chairing the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance (JKKTN), he emphasized that law enforcement must be paired with sustained integrity cultivation across public, private and societal spheres.
The meeting resolved to commission a legal study to draft policy direction and a Charities Bill aimed at overseeing trust entities and public money. Additionally, the government plans to introduce the Statutory Bodies and Controlled Entities (Financial Governance) Bill to the cabinet later this year to reinforce financial discipline. The session also adopted seven resolutions from the Fifth National Level Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference held on September 25. Anwar reiterated that safeguarding every ringgit of public money is essential for public trust under the MADANI Government.
