In the Asian Games men’s hockey semi-final, Malaysia’s Speedy Tigers overcame South Korea 2-1 at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium. Forward Azaji Aizad Abu Kamal scored twice, first from a penalty corner in the 40th minute and then converting a penalty stroke five minutes later. South Korea’s Lee Gang San reduced the deficit in the 42nd minute, and the Korean side played the final two minutes without goalkeeper Kim Jae Hyon to add an extra field player, but Malaysia could not extend its lead.
Coach Brendon Carolan met his performance target by reaching the final, the nation’s third appearance after silver medals in 2010 and 2018. Malaysia will face defending champions India, who advanced by beating Pakistan 4-3 in their semi-final.
