Malaysia to launch AI app for checking suspicious phone numbers and bank accounts

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the National Fraud Response Centre will develop an AI application to help citizens verify phone numbers, bank accounts and links before transacting.

While delivering the 2027 budget in Parliament, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed plans for the National Fraud Response Centre to build an artificial-intelligence application that enables Malaysians to check phone numbers, bank account details and suspicious links before making payments. He highlighted that the Communications and Multimedia Commission has been actively blocking scam-related calls and text messages.

Anwar also said the D11 Bukit Aman division is strengthening the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children system with more sophisticated data-analysis capabilities to detect early signs of online sexual exploitation. Furthermore, the commission will intensify the Safe Internet Campaign across schools, focusing on preventing cyberbullying and protecting children from online abuse. These measures aim to curb fraud and enhance digital safety nationwide.
