Malaysia unveils 429-step plan to ease cost-of-living pressures by 2030

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the National Cost of Living Action Plan 2030, detailing 429 measures aimed at boosting incomes and stabilising essential prices.

In a ceremony at the Hang Jebat Sports Complex in Krubong, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim introduced the National Cost of Living Action Plan 2030, which lists 429 specific actions across 35 strategies. The plan targets two core goals: raising household incomes and keeping prices of essential goods and services stable. It organises its efforts into eight strategic clusters—income, food, health, education, transport, housing, utilities and general matters—aligned with the MADANI Economic Framework and the 13th Malaysia Plan.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will coordinate the rollout, working with private firms, NGOs and citizens, while the National Cost of Living Action Council now has a broader mandate to monitor progress. Deputy Minister Datuk Fuziah Salleh also attended the launch, emphasizing the plan’s flexibility to adapt to domestic and global economic shifts.

Why it matters

The plan seeks to protect Malaysian households from rising living costs through coordinated, wide-scale policy measures.
