Malaysian Airlines Flight aborts takeoff at Narita after engine trouble

A Malaysian Airlines Airbus A330 bound for Kuala Lumpur halted its takeoff at Narita Airport after a left-engine problem, with all 160 occupants unharmed.

The aircraft, operating as Flight 89, began its roll onto a runway at Narita near Tokyo around 10:40 a.m. when black smoke was observed and the left engine malfunctioned. The crew aborted the departure, and none of the 160 passengers and crew were injured. Airport officials closed the runway for roughly two and a half hours while the issue was addressed.
