Malaysian and Singaporean arrested in separate drug busts involving biscuit packets
A 37-year-old Malaysian was detained at Tuas Checkpoint after sealed biscuit-packaged drugs were found on his motorcycle, and a 41-year-old Singaporean was arrested later that day in a separate operation, with the combined haul valued at over S$1 million.
On Sept 23, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority personnel at Tuas Checkpoint found sealed biscuit-labeled packets hidden in the rear box of a Malaysia-registered motorcycle, prompting the arrest of a 37-year-old Malaysian suspected of drug smuggling. Central Narcotics Bureau officers were immediately involved and uncovered roughly 6,961 g of heroin, 1,116 g of ice and 1,032 g of cannabis on the vehicle. Later the same day, CNB officers conducted an operation near Tampines Street 83, resulting in the detention of a 41-year-old Singaporean and the seizure of 790 g of heroin, 602 g of cannabis, 127 g of ice, 51 ecstasy tablets, 21 g of ketamine and S$33,086 in cash.
The combined value of the drugs and cash exceeds S$1 million (RM3.20 million). Investigations are proceeding under Sections 5 and 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, which imposes the death penalty for trafficking offenses. Authorities said they will continue cooperating to prevent cross-border drug smuggling.
