Malaysian bourse slips as US yields rise and Fed tightening worries linger
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI closed modestly lower amid concerns over higher US Treasury yields and possible further Fed tightening.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI finished the session 0.26% down at 1,674.74 points, reflecting lingering anxiety over rising US Treasury yields and the prospect of additional Federal Reserve tightening. Berjaya Research head of research Kenneth Leong maintained a cautious stance on the index, citing the high yield environment and a still-uncertain global rate outlook. He suggested that the recent dip might lure value-seeking investors as the index approaches oversold territory.
Market participants also looked ahead to the Bank of Japan’s policy announcement and Malaysia’s inflation figures due tomorrow for further direction. Technical analysis shows the index forming another bearish candlestick, with resistance near 1,687 and 1,700 points and support around 1,666 and 1,655 points. Trading volume rose slightly to 3.60 billion units, while sectoral indices mostly slipped, led by financial services.
