Malaysian duo Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin aim for Asian Games doubles gold
Malaysia's pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin have set their sights on winning the men’s doubles badminton title at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, an independent Malaysian badminton pair ranked sixth globally, announced their ambition to claim the men’s doubles gold at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. Speaking during a visit by Asian Games deputy chef de mission Azlan Iskandar to the Academy Badminton Malaysia, they highlighted recent successes, including victories at the Indonesia Open (Super 1000) and Indonesia Masters (Super 500) and a quarter-final finish at the World Championships in New Delhi.
They dismissed concerns about Izzuddin’s recent discomfort after a walkover at the China Masters, stating they are physically and mentally ready. Their chief competition will come from India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, world champions Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang, and Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri. Izzuddin also affirmed confidence in Malaysia’s broader goal of securing six gold medals at the Games, a target not achieved since Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong’s 2006 triumph.
