Malaysian King awards Egypt's President El-Sisi top national honor during state visit
Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim granted the Darjah Utama Seri Mahkota Negara to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during his two-day state visit.
On a two-day state visit, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was presented with Malaysia’s highest civilian award, the Darjah Utama Seri Mahkota Negara, after Sultan Ibrahim gave his consent. The ceremony took place in the Dewan Seri Maharaja of Istana Negara and was followed by a state banquet in the president’s honor. Malaysian leaders present included Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani, alongside an Egyptian delegation.
El-Sisi had been received earlier at the palace’s parade square at 10.08 am. The visit, at the Sultan’s invitation, is the first by an Egyptian president in nearly three decades, the previous one being Mohamed Hosni Mubarak in November 1997. Malaysia and Egypt have maintained diplomatic ties since 1959.
