Malaysian market edges higher as US yields dip and oil prices fall
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI inched up by about 0.06% amid lower US Treasury yields and a modest decline in Brent crude prices.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI recorded a slight increase of 1.11 points, or 0.06%, to finish at 1,675.85 after opening higher at 1,676.72. Market breadth was positive, with 276 gainers versus 111 decliners, and 281 stocks unchanged. Turnover amounted to 219.07 million shares worth RM104.76 million.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd’s equity research vice-president noted that the US 10-year Treasury yield fell to about 4.93%, while Brent crude dropped roughly one per cent to the low-$103 range, supporting the modest market rise. Major banks Maybank and CIMB slipped two sen each, whereas Public Bank edged up one sen; other notable moves included AirAsia falling 2.5 sen and Malaysian Pacific Industries gaining RM1.20. Sector indices showed mixed performance, with the Energy Index up 2.36 points and the Financial Services Index down 14.36 points.
