Malaysian pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin reach Denmark Open quarter-finals, eye revenge on Chinese rivals

World No. 6 Malaysians Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin advanced to the Denmark Open quarter-finals, setting up a rematch with China's Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang.

Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, seeded sixth, overcame compatriots Chia Weijie and Teo Ee Yi 21-18, 21-11 in just 28 minutes to reach the Denmark Open quarter-finals, their first such appearance since 2021. The pair have been consistent lately, reaching at least the quarter-finals in eight of their last ten tournaments, highlighted by an Indonesia Open triumph and semi-final runs at the Japan Open, World Championships and Asian Games.

Their upcoming opponent is world No. 2 Chinese pair Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, who eliminated the Malaysians in the Asian Games quarter-finals with a 21-13, 21-17 win. Although the Chinese lead the rivalry 4-1, the Malaysians secured a solitary victory at the 2024 Arctic Open semi-finals. A win would give Goh and Izzuddin a chance at revenge and a third title this season. In mixed doubles, temporary Malaysian pair Chen Tang Jie and Chan Wen Tse pushed Chinese sixth seeds Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui to three games before falling 21-23, 21-18, 22-20.
