Malaysian SMART disaster team lands in Kathmandu to begin Nepal relief mission

The Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) arrived at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan Airport and is heading to the Malaysian Embassy for a situation briefing.

The Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) MAS01 landed safely at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport, with arrival procedures finished by 4.30 pm local time. Following clearance, the team is traveling to the Malaysian Embassy to receive a briefing on the current disaster situation in Nepal. The National Disaster Management Agency said it will work with the embassy and Nepalese emergency management bodies to decide how the team will be deployed.

Daily mission updates will be shared between NADMA and the embassy throughout the operation. All 11 team members are reported to be in good health, and the aircraft also delivered 12.4 tonnes of rescue gear, drones, communication kits and vehicles.
