Malaysia’s haze stays below hazardous level, but several regions record very unhealthy air
As of 9 am, no Malaysian area reached hazardous API levels; Serian in Sarawak logged the highest reading at 214 (very unhealthy), with multiple locations across the country in the unhealthy range.
Malaysia’s Air Pollutant Index Management System indicated that, at 9 am, no region breached the hazardous threshold. The most severe measurement was in Serian, Sarawak, with an API of 214, classified as very unhealthy. Ten Sarawak districts—including Samarahan, Kuching, Sarikei, Sri Aman, Miri ILP, Samalaju, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu—registered unhealthy readings ranging from 102 to 185.
Selangor’s Johan Setia posted the state’s highest at 164, while other towns in Perak, the federal capital, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor also fell into the unhealthy bracket. In total, 29 locations were moderate and four recorded good air quality. The API scale defines 0-50 as good, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and 300+ hazardous.
