Mamata Banerjee's niece discovered dead in Birbhum home, authorities say suicide

Authorities in West Bengal discovered the lifeless body of Bristy Mukherjee, 28, at her home in the village of Kusumba, Rampurhat, Birbhum, on Tuesday. The young woman was found hanging from a ceiling fixture on the second floor, prompting police to classify the incident as a suicide. A senior officer confirmed that the corpse has been dispatched for a post-mortem examination and that further procedural inquiries will follow to clarify the events leading to her death.

Relatives disclosed that Bristy was undergoing divorce proceedings and had suffered from depression for an extended period, receiving treatment for the condition. Her father, Nihar Mukherjee, is a cousin of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and serves as a local party leader. The case is now under active investigation by law-enforcement agencies.
