Man, 29, arrested after racist traffic-cone assault on Glasgow delivery driver
Police arrested a 29-year-old suspect for a racially-motivated assault involving a traffic cone thrown at delivery driver Muhammad Jawad Yaqoob during a protest in Glasgow.
During an anti-immigration protest at Glasgow Green on 25 July, a group of counter-protesters attacked delivery driver Muhammad Jawad Yaqoob, 31, by throwing an orange traffic cone at him and shouting racial slurs. The assault was filmed and circulated on social media, prompting a police response. A 29-year-old man was arrested in Glasgow's Govan district and charged with racially-aggravated assault.
Fifteen individuals were arrested on the day of the demonstrations, and a major investigation team is working to identify further participants. The incident coincided with the opening weekend of the Commonwealth Games, prompting a large public-safety operation. Yaqoob reported feeling unsafe and unable to return to work after the attack.
