Man accused of abusing over 150 daycare children faces 115 additional charges

Hamish Alexander Edward Tait, a former early-childhood educator, has been hit with 115 further charges, bringing the total to 444 alleged offences involving more than 150 children at Sydney daycare centres. The Australian Federal Police arrested him in July 2025 after a recorded abuse clip was uploaded to a cloud server, prompting a raid on his Glossodia home and the seizure of 2.5 million files across several devices.

Detectives operating under Operation Moonbi identified 158 child victims spanning 16 years, leading to 105 counts of producing child-abuse material, five counts of sexual acts with a child under ten, five aggravated filming charges and four possession counts. Tait was employed by the Fit Kidz franchise, working at an estimated 62 centres; police raided ten of them and found evidence of abuse at five. Victims reside in Australia and Britain, and investigators suspect he also preyed on children in a remote Indigenous community on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in South Australia, involving South Australia Police.

A court order that had concealed his identity was lifted in July, and an online resource has been launched for parents to review his employment history. The matter will be heard at Parramatta Local Court on October 8.
