Man accused of acid assault on former fiancée and her sister in Hapur

Police say Harsh Bhati threw acid at his ex-fiancée and her sister in Hapur after a marriage proposal was cancelled, injuring both women.

In Hapur, a dispute over a broken marriage arrangement led to an acid assault, police reported. Harsh Bhati, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony, allegedly came to the victims' house on Saturday night carrying acid. When the door opened, he is said to have thrown the corrosive liquid at his former fiancée, and then at her sister who attempted to intervene.

The women's screams alerted relatives, who captured Bhati as he tried to escape and turned him over to authorities. A team from Simbhawali police station arrived, took Bhati into custody, and registered a complaint. Both victims are receiving treatment for serious injuries, and Circle Officer Rahul Yadav confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
