Man arrested after assaulting bus driver and driving hijacked bus against traffic in Telford
Police detained a man in his 20s on suspicion of robbery and dangerous driving after he attacked a bus driver, threw him from the vehicle and drove the bus on the wrong side of the road, colliding with several cars in Madeley.
At approximately 6:37 p.m. on September 18, officers were dispatched to Court Street in Madeley after witnesses reported a bus driver being assaulted. A man in his 20s allegedly attacked the driver, threw him from the bus and then commandeered the vehicle, driving it on the wrong side of the road along Park Way toward the High Street. The hijacked bus collided with several cars before police were able to halt it and take the suspect into custody.
The driver was treated on scene for minor injuries; no other injuries were reported. Detective Sergeant Taigh Lannie confirmed the arrest and asked the public to submit any relevant video evidence, such as dash-cam or doorbell recordings, to the Telford CID. The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.
