Man arrested after attempting to kidnap 13-year-old at Florida gas station

Police captured Michael Polanco after he tried to seize a 13-year-old girl at a Shell station in Miramar, Florida.

At a Shell gas station in Miramar, about 20 miles from Miami, a 32-year-old man identified as Michael Polanco attempted to abduct a 13-year-old girl in broad daylight. Video captured him in an orange bicycle helmet, blue fanny pack, tan shirt and dark shorts as he wrapped his arm around the child's neck and tried to move her to another part of the lot. The teenager managed to escape, ran into the station, and dialed 911 after a nearby auto-shop worker shouted at the assailant.

Police later received a tip linking Polanco to another disturbance, found him, and arrested him following positive identification by the victim and witness. A judge refused bail, and he now faces multiple counts, including battery, causing bodily harm, kidnapping and terrorizing the victim. Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss said the suspect was apprehended before any further harm could occur.

Why it matters

The arrest prevents a potential kidnapping and highlights community vigilance in stopping violent crimes.
