Man arrested after threatening Cathay Pacific intern with a knife at Taoyuan airport
A suspect was detained by aviation police after brandishing a knife and injuring a Cathay Pacific intern at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
At approximately 5:25 p.m. on Saturday, aviation police received a report of a knife-wielding individual in the Cathay Pacific staff lounge of Terminal 1 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The suspect, surnamed Tsai, confronted an airline intern, Huang, and held him at knifepoint, causing lacerations to Huang’s right hand and abdomen. Officers responded quickly, subduing Tsai by 5:58 p.m. and escorting him to the Aviation Police Bureau, where he sustained only superficial injuries.
Huang was taken to a hospital for medical care. Police confiscated Tsai’s backpack, finding no weapons or hazardous items, and are investigating his motives. Cathay Pacific confirmed the incident and pledged assistance to the injured intern while cooperating with authorities.
