Man arrested again after exotic white-capped silk monkey found in his car
Police detained a Tiszafüred resident for possessing a white-capped silk monkey without a permit, after previously being linked to a smuggled tiger cub.
Investigators from the Nemzeti Nyomozó Iroda’s environmental crime division are pursuing a Tiszafüred man already known for a 2025 case involving a tiger cub smuggled into Hungary. In a later traffic stop, authorities found a white-capped silk monkey hidden in his car, an exotic species without any import or ownership papers. The monkey, which had no identifying tags, was transferred to the Budapest Zoo and placed under quarantine.
Because private individuals are not allowed to keep such animals, the man was again interrogated and taken into custody for repeat violation. A court ordered his detention pending further legal action.
