Man arrested for allegedly throwing 5-year-old niece into river in Johor

In the early morning, police received a tip about a tragic incident in Kampung Padang, Tanjung Sedili, and dispatched a team from the Kuala Sedili police station. They apprehended a 37-year-old man suspected of throwing his 5-year-old niece into a nearby river, an act that resulted in the child's death. The suspect then brandished a parang and chased a 40-year-old man before being confronted by officers, during which a police officer sustained an injury.

An assistant medical officer on site verified the fatality, and the victim's body will first be moved to Kota Tinggi Hospital and later to the Forensic Department of Pasir Gudang Hospital for an autopsy. The investigation proceeds under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with authorities noting possible mental health concerns for the accused.
