Man arrested for fatal stabbing in Staunton amid sanctuary policy debate

The suspect, Freddi Chigo Mil, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was arrested at the location and charged with second-degree murder and malicious wounding. The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene, while the surviving victim was taken to a nearby hospital and listed as stable.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin used the case to criticize Governor Abigail Spanberger's support for sanctuary policies, urging cooperation with ICE, which has placed a detainer on Mil. He argued that stricter enforcement would prevent similar tragedies. Mil remains detained at Middle River Regional Jail pending further immigration proceedings.
