Man arrested in 1993 disappearance and murder of Maryland boy
Police arrested Joseph Lynch, 61, charging him with murder and rape in the 1993 disappearance of 10-year-old George “Junior” Burdynski in Brentwood, Maryland.
On May 24, 1993, 10-year-old George “Junior” Burdynski disappeared while cycling near his Brentwood, Maryland residence, sparking a high-profile missing-child case. Federal and Prince George’s County investigators now say 61-year-old Joseph Lynch is responsible, charging him with murder, rape and other offenses. Detectives were tipped off by a man now in his 40s who claimed Lynch compelled him, at age 13, to kill Burdynski and dump the body in a dumpster.
The arrest also exposed a broader network of pedophiles in the area, including previously identified predators such as James Kowalski. Police chief George Nader said they expect more victims, likely now in their 40s, to come forward. The Burdynski family expressed devastation after 33 years of uncertainty.
