Man beaten and burned after dispute at girlfriend's home in Odisha
A 28-year-old man was beaten and set on fire after an argument at his girlfriend’s house in Babarakot, Deogarh district, Odisha, police said.
Police investigations reveal that 28-year-old Silu Ray was assaulted at his girlfriend’s residence in Babarakot, Deogarh district, Odisha, sometime between 10.45 pm and 11 pm on Wednesday night. After the beating, his body was moved to a verandah, doused with petrol and set alight, prompting nearby residents to call the fire department, which extinguished the fire and notified police. Authorities have taken the woman and her parents into custody to determine the sequence of events and whether the murder was pre-meditated, including how the gasoline was sourced.
Ray’s father, Mohan Ray, alleges his son was summoned under false pretenses and attacked by the entire family. Neighbours reported that Ray’s occasional alcohol-induced disturbances had sparked frequent quarrels with the woman’s relatives. Police are examining all angles of the case, including possible planning and motive.
