Man brandishes sword and attacks deputy during desert neighbor dispute

On Aug. 3, deputies responded to a reported disturbance at Desert Oasis Mobile Estates in Rosamond, where Joshua Dribin, 22, complained that a neighbor’s truck engine was waking him. Dribin told the arriving deputy that he had already asked the neighbor to stop, but the noise persisted. He then left his house with a sword and confronted the officer, shouting threats.

The deputy, after confirming the presence of a weapon, opened fire as Dribin charged. Emergency personnel treated Dribin at the scene before he was taken to a hospital, where his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. He faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and resisting arrest. The Kern County Sheriff’s Homicide Division is investigating, and the department’s Incident Review Board has deemed the use of force consistent with policy.
