Man caught on camera hurling pork at Warragul mosque, police launch investigation

Security cameras captured a man dressed in a grey tracksuit flinging bacon and ham at the entrance of the Warragul Mosque in regional Victoria on Wednesday afternoon. Islamic representatives called the act a deliberate attempt to offend, intimidate and divide the local Muslim population, noting that the mosque has previously faced graffiti and vandalism. The attack came days after former mixed-martial-arts fighter Nick Patterson posted a video urging a stronger Christian presence and received comments suggesting pork-based vandalism.

Victoria Police have opened an investigation and asked the public to contact Crime Stoppers with any information. Community leaders, including Mansoor Shamsi of the mosque committee, said the incident has drawn overwhelming support from the broader community, while the Islamic Council of Victoria warned it reflects a rise in Islamophobic behaviour.
