Man charged after allegedly trying to open Qantas aircraft door in flight

During a Qantas service from Karratha to Perth, Thomas Raymond Forster, 41, is alleged to have harassed another passenger and physically struck the seat ahead of him. When cabin crew attempted to calm the situation, he reportedly continued to insult them and refused to follow safety directives, such as fastening his seatbelt. As the aircraft prepared to land, Forster is accused of trying to open a passenger door while the plane was still in flight, prompting police to escort him off the aircraft at Perth Airport.

He now faces charges of harming a Commonwealth official, endangering aircraft safety, disobeying crew instructions and disorderly conduct. Acting Superintendent Hayly Faithfull of the Australian Federal Police emphasized the agency’s commitment to aviation security. A Perth Magistrates Court granted him bail, with the case set for a later hearing.
