Man charged with dangerous and drink driving in fatal Listowel teen crash

Alan Browne, a 37-year-old resident of Birmingham originally from Listowel, was presented to Cork District Court on multiple offences linked to a fatal crash on the N69 near Dromin Upper, Listowel, in the early hours of September 26. He faces charges of dangerous driving causing the death of teenager Rory O’Connor, drink-driving, driving without insurance, and operating a vehicle without a licence. Sergeant Joe O’Sullivan testified to Browne’s arrest and cautioned him that any statements could be used as evidence, to which Browne gave no reply.

Judge David Waters ordered Browne to remain in custody until a later hearing at Listowel District Court, with no bail application made. The prosecution’s next steps will be directed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, while Gardaí have appealed for witnesses or video evidence from motorists travelling the N69 during the relevant time window.
