Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in 2023 Child Lake Shooting
A 21-year-old man from Child Lake First Nations, Jardin Cardinal, was charged with first-degree murder for the 2023 shooting death of Trevor Fournier.
On July 17, 2023, RCMP officers were dispatched to a residence on Child Lake First Nations, about 712 km north of Edmonton, and discovered the body of 48-year-old Trevor Fournier, who had been shot. The investigation was handed to the Alberta RCMP major crimes unit. Saturday, the unit arrested 21-year-old Jardin Cardinal, a member of the Child Lake First Nations, and laid a first-degree murder charge in connection with the killing.
Cardinal has been remanded in police custody and is scheduled to appear before the High Level court on Thursday. The case highlights ongoing law-enforcement activity in remote northern Alberta communities.
