Man charged with kidnapping and rape after woman entered car in England town centre
A 30-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping, rape and related offences after a woman was allegedly assaulted in a vehicle that traveled from Wigan to St Helens.
Merseyside Police received a report early on Sunday that a woman had gotten into a car in Wigan under the impression it was a taxi, accompanied by friends. The car then travelled to St Helens town centre, where the woman was allegedly raped and assaulted. James Paterson, 30, of Inglewhite Road in Longridge, has been charged with two counts of rape, sexual assault, kidnapping and assault.
He was charged on September 30 and remains in custody pending his next hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on October 28. Detective Inspector Jamie Heston emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with further details to come forward.
