Man charged with murder of fellow resident at Tanjung Rambutan care centre

Soo Kim Keong, a 51-year-old man, faced a murder charge after authorities said he killed 28-year-old resident Chong Mun Long at the Grace Home Care Centre in Tanjung Rambutan between 3 am and 4 am. The alleged incident followed a dispute with another resident, and Chong was found unconscious on Sept 3 before dying on Sept 17 from a lung infection and head trauma. The charge, filed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, allows for the death penalty or a lengthy prison term with mandatory caning.

Magistrate Norizan Riduan ordered Soo to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for a psychiatric evaluation and scheduled a case mention for Oct 30. Deputy public prosecutor S Kirthana represented the state, while Soo remained unrepresented in court.
