Man Charged with Murder of Resident at Tanjung Rambutan Care Home

Soo Kim Keong, a 51-year-old man, was formally charged with the murder of 28-year-old Chong Mun Long at the Grace Home Care Centre in Tanjung Rambutan. The incident took place in the early hours, between 3 am and 4 am, after a reported misunderstanding with another resident. Chong was found unconscious on Sept 3 and later died on Sept 17 at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital due to a lung infection and blunt-force head injury.

The charge, filed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries a death penalty or 30-40 years’ imprisonment plus at least 12 strokes of the cane. During the hearing, magistrate Norizan Riduan ordered Soo to be examined at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for psychiatric evaluation, with the next court date scheduled for Oct 30. Deputy public prosecutor S Kirthana represented the state, while Soo had no legal representation.
