Man confesses to assaulting ex-boxing champion Joe Cordina in Cardiff
Jamie O'Brien admitted in court to punching former world champion Joe Cordina outside a petrol station in Cardiff and received a conditional discharge.
At a magistrates' hearing in Cardiff, 33-year-old Jamie O'Brien confirmed his identity and pleaded guilty to assaulting former boxing champion Joe Cordina at a Texaco garage in Pentwyn. The judge noted O'Brien was experiencing a mental-health crisis and ordered a conditional discharge, £85 in court costs and a £26 surcharge. He was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act. Cordina faces two separate assault-by-beating charges and will appear again in October.
