Man convicted of domestic abuse murders ex-partner after she started new relationship

Lee Inglis pleaded guilty to stabbing Stacey Hogg to death in Hawick after learning she had begun a new relationship.

Lee Inglis, a 39-year-old with a record of domestic violence, entered a guilty plea for the murder of his former partner, 35-year-old Stacey Hogg, in her Hawick home. The killing took place a day after Inglis learned Hogg had started a new relationship, prompting him to wait until his night-time curfew ended before traveling from his parents' house to the victim's residence. He slipped in through the back door and stabbed Hogg as she came down the stairs, inflicting catastrophic neck and head injuries.

Police found her dead in a bathroom, and Inglis told officers he intended to cut off her head and would not let her go. The court noted his prior convictions for assaulting Hogg, which had resulted only in unpaid work and supervision, and scheduled his sentencing for 5 November. The case adds to a series of recent high-profile violent crimes against women in Scotland.

Why it matters
