Man convicted of raping girl under 13 receives 12-year sentence
Richard Day was sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a girl younger than 13, after a jury found him guilty of prolonged sexual abuse.
A West Yorkshire jury unanimously convicted Richard Day, 30, of raping a girl under the age of 13 and subjecting her to ongoing sexual abuse from 2014 to 2017. The crimes were first reported to police in 2021, prompting an investigation that brought Day to court in October 2023. At the June trial, the jury found him guilty on all counts, resulting in a 12-year custodial sentence, a restraining order and registration as a sex offender.
Detective Sergeant Olivia Connor praised the victim’s courage and said the case underscores the difficulty survivors face in reporting such crimes. Authorities continue to encourage other victims to report abuse, promising dedicated safeguarding support.
