Man critically wounded in Woolwich shooting as police launch manhunt

A man in his 30s was shot multiple times near the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich and is now fighting for his life, while police search for the gunman.

Police were called to Frances Street in Woolwich at 8.09 p.m. after hearing gunshots near the Royal Artillery Barracks. Officers discovered a man in his 30s who had been shot multiple times and provided immediate first aid until the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance arrived. He was then transferred to an east London hospital where his injuries are described as life-threatening.

Firearms officers and specialist detectives remain on the scene, but no suspect has been apprehended. Authorities have launched a citywide manhunt and are urging anyone with information to contact the police or Crimestoppers. The barracks, which housed the Royal Artillery for more than two centuries, is scheduled to close in 2028 after being deemed surplus by the Ministry of Defence.
