Man denied bail after alleged shooting injures teen in Canberra suburb

A 29-year-old man was denied bail after being charged with shooting at a car in Conder, seriously wounding a teenage passenger.

On Friday night in Canberra’s southern suburb of Conder, a 29-year-old male allegedly pursued a red Ford Falcon carrying four teenagers, then opened fire from a red Hyundai i30, striking a passenger in the back seat. Officers provided immediate first aid and the teen was transported by ACT Ambulance Service to hospital with serious injuries. After the incident, police observed a man emerge from vegetation on Greaves Place and get into a waiting red Audi, which was later found parked outside his Gordon residence.

He was arrested, charged with using a firearm to endanger human life, and appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court, where magistrate James Lawton denied bail, noting the firearm had not been recovered and the accused was on parole. The case is set for a further hearing on November 4, and police are asking anyone who saw the vehicles or has CCTV footage along the relevant streets to contact Crime Stoppers.
