Man denies hate-motivated murder of Dundee scientist, trial set for 2028
Kyle Rattray has entered a not-guilty plea to the alleged racially-charged killing of Dr Fortune Gomo, with a High Court trial scheduled for January 2028.
Kyle Rattray, aged 21, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Dr Fortune Gomo, a 39-year-old scientist, after prosecutors allege a knife attack motivated by race, nationality or ethnicity. He also faces a separate charge for carrying a knife in public. Defence lawyer Iain Paterson said a mental-health report, potentially involving an autism assessment by Professor Baron-Cohen, will be compiled in the coming months.
The trial is slated to begin in January 2028 at the High Court in Dundee. Colleagues described Gomo as an exceptional and highly valued member of Scottish Water's water resources planning team, noting she had joined the organization only months before her death. Police Scotland has asked the public to refrain from spreading misinformation about the case.
Why it matters
