Man denies murder charges in fatal Grangetown house fire killing child and aunt
A 23-year-old man pleaded not guilty to two murder counts for the deaths of a seven-year-old girl and her aunt in a Grangetown blaze.
In a video-link hearing at Teesside Crown Court, 23-year-old Jaden Wright entered not-guilty pleas to two murder charges relating to the deaths of seven-year-old Valentina Foster and her 34-year-old aunt Natalie McDonald in a house fire in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, on August 26. The blaze also left two adults and two teenagers injured. Wright additionally denied two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, as well as charges of causing a woman grievous bodily harm and intentional strangulation stemming from an alleged incident on August 25.
The defendant, dressed in a grey sweatshirt, was remanded in custody by Judge Francis Laird KC. He will stand trial on April 19, with a further hearing scheduled for December 18.
