Man detained in connection with Paul “Bosco” O’Connor’s fatal shooting in Cork

A man in his 30s was arrested under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act for the killing of Paul “Bosco” O’Connor, whose body was found near the Blackwater River in Mallow, County Cork.

Gardaí have taken a man in his thirties into custody under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act for the murder of Paul “Bosco” O’Connor. The victim’s body was located on the Blackwater River at the townland of Ballyellis, on the edge of Mallow in north Cork, after being reported missing. A post-mortem, not yet released, is believed to show at least two gunshot wounds to the head, prompting police to consider a gangland-style execution.

O’Connor, originally from Ballyphehane in Cork city, was known to law enforcement and had earlier been suspected of armed robberies targeting financial institutions. Gardaí are tracing his movements, including a train ride from Kent Station to Mallow, and have appealed for any road-user or pedestrian footage from the area. Tips can be sent to Mallow Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
