Man dies after bystanders pull him from water at Bournemouth beach
A man in his late 50s or early 60s was pronounced dead after five beachgoers rescued him from Durley Chine Beach near Bournemouth Pier.
At approximately 3.40 pm on a Sunday, a man estimated to be in his late 50s or early 60s was found half in and half out of the water at Durley Chine Beach near Bournemouth Pier. Five bystanders, including James Edward Lees, lifted him onto dry land and placed him in the recovery position before calling 999 at 3.47 pm. An off-duty Metropolitan Police officer and a trained nurse administered CPR while a rescue helicopter circled the area.
Despite the arrival of coastguard, police and paramedic units, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Dorset Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and that his family has been notified.
